-Bharatanatyam is an ancient temple dance form south India (Tamil Nadu). Today it is mainly taught in the dance academies and performed in the stage. The characteristics of this classical dance are the elaborated movements, poses and gestures.
During the introductory course we are going to learn some of the basics of Bharatanatyam: footwork (adavu) and hand gestures (hasta). It takes years to become a good dancer, but everybody can enjoy the process of learning and the joy of the dance. Practicing Indian classical dance is improving the stance, balance and coordination. Additionally it deepens an understanding of a different culture with its myths, traditions and music.
Ann started her training in Bharatanatyam in the dance school Amrita under the supervision of magnificent teacher Pille Roosi in 1998. She has also been taking part of the dance courses lead by Malini Srinivasan and Syed Sallaudin Pasha.
